A Little Dab of This & A Little Dash of That

Words of Wisdom

from:" What Nobody Ever Tells You About Being A Parent"

This started as a list of Rules for Life for my daughters.  These are not original, however, in the hustle and bustle of living in today's world it's good for all of us to stop now and then, to think about what we believe and hold true.  So without further ado-

-First and foremost the Golden Rule; Treat others as you wish to be treated

-When you acknowledge the strength, intelligence, power and kindness of others, it does not diminish yours; it increases it.

-Time honored cliche for a reason: If it's too good to be true, it usually is.

-Most things in life are a choice, and every choice yields consequences; some good, some bad, so think and consider each choice and action carefully.

-Mind your own garden.  When all is good and lovely there, then you can comment on others.

- Remember- Nobody is 100% good or 100% bad.  People will surprise you all the time.

-If you are going to do something, do it proper and do it with panache.

-In life when considering your position or state of being, remember: there are always many that have it way worse than you do; and many of the ones that have it better often don't have the good sense to appreciate it.

-Remember perception is reality in many cases.  Someone once said, "the road to hell is paved with good intentions."  More often than not, it is not your intentions with what you say and do, but how they are perceived that really matter.

-Consider your words carefully.  They reflect your character, and once said or written, they are forever.

-Always consider, just because you can, doesn't necessarily mean you should.

-Not every thought in your head needs to come out; or be posted to a social media.

-Most the time in life you will find that it is more important to get along than it is to make a point of being right.  However, the times that it is important to make a point, it is important to be tenacious, persistent, and if necessary, loud.

-When in doubt, take the high road.  Even if things don't work out the way you want, you'll be proud to look in the mirror, and you'll sleep well.

-When asking a question, make sure you want to know the answer.

-Mean what you say, say what you mean.

-Be careful when giving ultimatums; unless you know you have the winning hand, you may not like the outcome.

-Never say "never"; you don't know what life has in store for you.  It may also make you sound pious.

-Don't give advice, unless asked for.  And then be very careful, if you value the relationship.

-Be what you want to be, not what others think you should be.

-When in doubt, go for the WOW factor.

-Always take the high road, that way you get to wear the white hat.  Plus, you'll sleep better at night.

- An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure.

-Remeber the acronym K-I-S-S;  KEEP IT SIMPLE SWEETHEART

-Never mind the "nay" sayers

-Don't argue with idiots; they'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

-Remember: All news is biased.  Consider the source, research their motivation; then decide on the matter at hand.

-Know what you want.  Think about it long and hard.  Ask for help when you need it, and ask for what you want or create it.

-Face every day with a spirit of gratitude.  Write Thank You notes in a timely manner.
